Meet the Artist: Elsie Fox

 

Hello!

Thank you for being here! I'm happy to share a bit about myself as an artist and maker behind the works of Elsie’s Ceramic Story.

I started getting into painting ceramics around 14 years old (I am now 19). My artistic journey started long before that though, beginning with drawing and watercolor, and now photography and creating unique scenes on ceramics. I have always loved creating these intricate scenes on paper, ceramics, canvas, and any surface that could be brought to life by the work of my hands.

My main work is done on buttons. To me they are practical pieces that can add meaning and beauty to something that has already felt the love of being handmade. I can remember a few of the very first designs I painted, and it’s exciting to see how far I’ve been able to succeed in my skill. Each one of my button packs starts with a vision inspired by the many wonders and sights of God’s creation. One of my favorite ways to fill up on inspiration is to take walks through the critter-filled woods and fields. Hearing the lively chirps of birds, and the leaves being rustled by scurrying of chipmunks and squirrels, is something that will forever hold a place in my heart. Getting into photography has helped me to capture those special moments, and from there, hand-paint them on a button.

When I sit down to paint, the process does not begin with just a paint brush and glaze, but with a love for the beauty around me, and a passion for the work I am doing. Each button tells a story of its own, found within the unique personality of the animal and the beauty of its surroundings. I hope that each pack will hold a special place in your heart and on your handmade goods.

There is an abundance of beauty, personality, and wonder in nature and I believe that beauty can be found within the works we create with our hands.
